LEICESTER picked up their second Elite League win of the season as they got the better of Lakeside 51-42 at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium.
The Lions quickly overturned 5-1 to the Hammers in the opening race and opened up a ten-point lead, only for the visitors to cut the gap to three as home No.1 Jason Doyle suffered mechanical failure in two of his first three rides.
But Doyle combined with Bjarne Pedersen for a 5-1 over previously unbeaten Hammers guest Hans Andersen in Heat 13 and the Australian ensured the Purfleet club would leave with no points by winning Heat 15, with top-scorer Szymon Wozniak (10+1) third.
Leicester boss Norrie Allan said: “It says much about the team that everyone pulled together to keep the momentum going particularly as we lost points at vital times when Jason twice pulled up with machine problems. It was a successful return for Mikkel Michelsen and there were match winning rides by Josh Auty and Simon Lambert.
“Bjarne grew with every ride and Szymon delivered a mature performance which earned him selection for Heat 15. It was the first match that we have been without Grzegorz Walasek since he injured his hand but Nick Morris was an able deputy with a solid paid nine.”
